The NHL playoffs are heating up, and the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens are set to face off in a crucial Game 7. With the Eastern Conference Final on the line, the stakes couldn't be higher for both teams.
The Sabres, led by forward Tage Thompson, are embracing the challenge of their first career Game 7. Thompson, speaking with enthusiasm, emphasizes the importance of staying focused and playing shift by shift, a strategy that proved successful in their 8-3 win in Game 6.
"It's a new experience for a lot of guys in this room," Thompson said. "But we knew going into this series it was going to be a long one. They're a good team, and it's just something that gets you excited."
The Sabres have a history of struggling in Game 7s, having played in seven and winning only once in 1997. However, Thompson believes that their recent success and the team's resilience can turn the tide.
"We're a team that is really resilient," Thompson added. "We've been in this situation before, so we have experience. We just have to win one game. That’s the focus right now."
The Canadiens, on the other hand, are no strangers to Game 7s either. Forwards Brendan Gallagher and Phillip Danault have each played in three, with Gallagher contributing one goal and two assists. The Canadiens' goaltending has been a key factor, as Jakub Dobes made 28 saves in their first-round Game 7 win.
Despite the Canadiens' recent success, the Sabres are determined to make their own history. With the Eastern Conference Final on the line, the team is focused on simplifying their game and executing their strategy.
"We just have to win one game," Thompson said. "That’s the focus right now."
As the tension rises, the NHL playoffs showcase the unpredictability and excitement of the sport. The Sabres and Canadiens will battle it out in a decisive Game 7, with the winner advancing to the Eastern Conference Final. The outcome will determine the fate of both teams and their aspirations of Stanley Cup glory.
